Course Contents

This Certificate Program in UI/UX Design introduces learners to the principles and practices of user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design. With a focus on practical skills and foundational knowledge, this program guides students through the process of creating intuitive, user-centered digital interfaces. Students will gain hands-on experience using basic design tools, understanding the fundamentals of human-centered design and applying UX methodologies to enhance user satisfaction.

Module Details
Module 1 Introduction to UI/UX Design

Objective: Overview of UI and UX: definitions, differences, and career paths. Introduction to design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD). Understanding the user-centered design process.

Module 2 Principles of Visual Design

Objective: Basics of color theory, typography, and layout. Concepts of contrast, alignment, repetition and balance. Accessibility considerations in design.

Module 3 Understanding User Needs

Objective: Introduction to user research methods: interviews, surveys and observations. Basics of creating user personas. Mapping user journeys and defining user needs.

Module 4 Design Thinking and Ideation

Objective: Introduction to the design thinking process. Techniques for brainstorming and generating design ideas. Structuring ideation sessions to solve user problems.

Module 5 Wireframing Basics

Objective: Introduction to wireframes: purpose and benefits. Creating low-fidelity sketches and digital wireframes. Introduction to wireframing tools and practices.

Module 6 User Flows and Information Architecture

Objective: Basics of user flows and task flows in a digital interface. Structuring information for clarity and usability. Developing sitemaps to organize content.

Module 7 Building Prototypes

Objective: Introduction to prototyping: purpose and process. Creating low and mid-fidelity prototypes. Using prototyping tools to add interactivity to designs.

Module 8 Principles of Interaction Design

Objective: Introduction to interactions, animations and micro-interactions. Creating intuitive and responsive interactions. Best practices for enhancing user engagement.

Module 9 Usability Testing and Feedback

Objective: Basics of usability testing: methods and tools. Conducting simple usability tests and gathering feedback. Interpreting results and iterating on designs.

Module 10 Mobile-First and Responsive Design

Objective: Introduction to responsive and mobile-first design principles. Adapting designs for different devices and screen sizes. Best practices for designing accessible mobile interfaces.

Module 11 Design Handoff and Collaboration

Objective: Preparing designs for handoff to developers. Documenting and communicating design decisions. Collaborative workflows and using design systems.

Module 12 Portfolio Project and Presentation

Objective: Developing a small project for a digital portfolio. Preparing and presenting design solutions to peers. Tips for building an entry-level UI/UX design portfolio.
